A display that is projected onto a transparent surface in front of a person using manual controls, so that he or she can view the information it provides without looking away from the controls and associated instruments. The display can also produce an image that is focused at infinity, so that the user’s eyes do not have to switch focus from long-distance to short-distance. Originally developed for military aviation applications, HUDs are increasingly being used in high-end cars.
