A door in a spacecraft. A space shuttle, for example, has hatches connecting the mission and payload stations to the living quarters below. Hatches can also open outside, such as the shuttle's ingress–egress side hatch.

‘Hatch’ was adopted from the nautical term for doors leading to cabins or lower levels on ships.
