Philosophy
  • known as Doctor Authenticus, but less flatteringly as Infantium Tortor (tormentor of children), because he held extreme views concerning the fate of children who died unbaptized. Gregory is thought to have been responsible for introducing knowledge of English developments in logic and philosophy to Paris. His best-known writings are commentaries on the Sentences of Peter Lombard. He tackled the general problem of divine foreknowledge and future contingents and the specific dilemma of predestination and free will.
