Muslim rulers of the Delhi sultanate in northern India (1414–51). They seized power from the Tughluqs, but never equalled their predecessors’ imperial pretensions. Rival neighbours soon threatened their claims even in the north, and in 1448 their last sultan abandoned Delhi, to be replaced three years later by the Afghan Lodis.
