specializing in time series, who spent most of his career in the USA. Granger studied at U Nottingham, obtaining his BA in mathematics in 1955. He promptly joined the faculty as lecturer in statistics, obtaining his PhD in 1959. After a period in the United States he returned to Nottingham as Professor of Economics and Statistics. In 1974 he moved to UCSD. He was elected to the AAAS in 1994. Together with Engle, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2003. He was knighted in 2004.
