An organization for the promotion of astronomy and geophysics, founded in 1820 as the Astronomical Society of London. It became the Royal Astronomical Society in 1831. Its headquarters are in London. The RAS publishes Monthly Notices, Astronomy & Geophysics, and Geophysical Journal International.
