The alignment of country rock xenoliths within large granite bodies such that they reflect a continuation of the stratigraphy and structure of the country rocks surrounding the intrusion. An old idea, ghost stratigraphy was regarded as evidence favouring the view that granite may form by the replacement of country rocks.
