Technologies that enable an ever-expanding range of individuals and social groups to create and disseminate maps and spatial data; Google Earth, Microsoft’s Virtual Earth and Wikimapia allow users to add their own geographic information to web-based displays or modify the contributions of others. Other technologies include geotagging, geoblogging, GPS-enabled devices, photographs, narrative text, and video clips that may now be embedded with details about their geographic location.
