A bird belonging to a family (Coraciidae) of brightly coloured birds about 25 cm long that have large heads, short necks, long tails, short legs, and stout, slightly curved bills. They feed on a wide range of invertebrates and small vertebrates. There are two genera with 12 species found throughout the warmer parts of the Old World.
