In a spacecraft, the area used for food stowage, preparation, and dining. In the space shuttle, this is a compact space located in the mid-deck. It includes an oven, injectors for hot and cold water, trays, towels, refrigerated food, drinks, and a pantry for food storage. On some flights, payloads take up the galley space and the food preparation system becomes limited to food warmers and drink dispensers.
‘Galley’ comes from the nautical term for the corresponding area on a ship.
