A circuit with two or more input terminals that produces an output signal only when an input signal is received by each input either simultaneously or within a specified time interval, Δt. An electronic counter incorporating such a circuit records events occurring together and is termed a coincidence counter. Such a device, if fed by the outputs of two radiation detectors, may be used to determine the direction of radiation or to detect cosmic-ray showers. See also anticoincidence circuit.
