A vehicle that is not controlled by an on-board operator, but rather from a nearby location. Control communication is achieved by either a radio link or a connecting cable. The acronym ROV is most often used to denote a remotely operated underwater vehicle. Other kinds include unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and land-based remotely controlled vehicles (RCVs).
