A sterile room where NASA astronauts wait to board a space shuttle for launching. It is located at the end of the catwalk leading to the shuttle and positioned next to the latter's open hatch. In the white room, technicians in lint-free uniforms help the waiting crew members into emergency-escape harnesses and lead them into the shuttle (always in the order of commander, pilot, mission specialists, and payload specialists).
