A meteorite that was not observed to fall, but was found and subsequently identified, sometimes many thousands of years after reaching the Earth. Over 95% of known meteorites are finds. Weathered iron and stony-iron meteorites are more readily identified than weathered stony meteorites, so these meteorites are over-represented in collections. Observed falls more accurately reflect the true proportions of meteorite types.
