A small to medium-sized, often colourful bird with a large, conical bill, that feeds on seeds, buds, and insects. Finches are found in forest, scrub, and open country, and in gardens, throughout Eurasia, Africa, and the Americas. They comprise the family Fringillidae, with 52 genera and 218 species, including siskins, bramblings, grosbeaks, and serins, as well as birds called finches.
