The protection of files from the mistaken or unauthorized storage or retrieval of information (or, in the case of program files, from mistaken or unauthorized execution). Protection may be
(a) physical, concerned with the security of the media on which files are held, and implemented by operating procedures, or
(b) logical, concerned with the security of the contents of files, and implemented by software.
