单词 fair trade
释义
fair trade

Geography
  • A commodity chain set up to promote worker welfare, minimize environmental damage, and allow producers to increase their living standards, and control within the supply chain, through development projects. See Hughes in D. Burch and G. Lawrence, eds. (2007) on supermarkets and ethical/fair trade, and Hughes (2006) Geoforum 37, 6 on UK food and clothing retailers, and ethical trading.

Economics
  • The purchase of products directly from the producers and retailed to consumers with explicit labelling. Fair-trade products are purchased from farmers at a price above the market price. This is intended to offset the perceived exploitation of product market power by large multinationals and to make the production environmentally sustainable. The products are sold to final consumers at a higher price than non-fair-trade products.
