whose career has been in the USA, where he arrived in 1957 to study mathematics at U Colorado. Puri obtained his PhD (supervised by Lehmann) from UCB in 1962, joining the faculty at NYU before moving to Indiana U in 1968. His interests include probability theory, extreme-value distributions, time series, and non-parametric tests. His 1971 book with Sen entitled Non-parametric Tests in Multivariate Analysis remains a standard reference. See Sen–Puri test.
