A series of robot supply-vehicles developed by the USSR and used from 2001 to transport provisions to the International Space Station (ISS). The craft is 8 m long and 2.2 m wide, and can fly a payload of 2300 kg. Its thrusters can also be fired to change the attitude of the ISS. The first Progress was launched in January 1978 to the Russian space station Salyut 6 and Progress craft later made regular trips to the Russian space station Mir. Between 1 February 2003 and 26 July 2005, Progress was the only spacecraft available to transport large quantities of supplies to the ISS. Over the years, Progress has been continually upgraded and improved. For instance, the current Progress craft (Progress MS) first launched in December 2015 and has a new external compartment that enables it to deploy satellites, among other improvements.
