The rescue of 103 hostages on a French aeroplane by an Israeli commando squad. The flight from Israel to France had been hijacked by Palestinian terrorists on June 27 and forced to land at Entebbe, Uganda. The hijackers freed 258 non-Israeli passengers but held the rest, demanding the release of 53 imprisoned terrorists. The squad of Israeli soldiers rescued most of the hostages within an hour of arriving in Entebbe and only three hostages, one soldier, and seven terrorists were killed. The success of the raid won Israel international acclaim.
