A valve used on a process vessel or pipe designed to operate as a safety device and activate to discharge the pressurized gas or liquid whenever it has reached a set point pressure. The valve will automatically close again once the pressure has fallen below the set point. In comparison, a pressure safety valve (PSV) has a level that can be manually activated in the event of an emergency.
