The official government policy for space exploration. The first official US national space policy was stated in the National Aeronautics and Space Act 1958. The best known was the programme to put a person on the Moon that was announced by US president John F. Kennedy on 25 March 1961. The White House normally announces a new national space policy after it is reviewed by the National Science and Technology Council and the National Security Council. Russian national space policy announcements are often made as an edict from the president of the Russian Federation or as resolutions or laws adopted by the political assembly of the Russian Federation.
