单词 porosity
释义
porosity

Chemical Engineering
  • The proportion of the volume of a porous body that is not occupied by the body itself. It is usually given as a fraction, percentage, or decimal. The porosity of a packed bed is the ratio of the volume of voids to the total volume of the bed. The value is dependent on the shape and size distribution of the particles, the ratio of the particle size to bed diameter, and the method used for filling the bed. It is usually determined by measuring how much water is used to fill the voids compared with the total volume of the bed. Compare voidage.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • Absolute porosity is the total of all void spaces present within a rock, but not all these spaces will be interconnected and thus able to contain and transmit fluids. The effective porosity is thus defined as the proportion of the rock which consists of interconnected pores. Porosity is expressed as a percentage of the bulk volume of the rock. See also choquette and pray classification; fenestral porosity; fracture porosity; moldic porosity; oomoldic porosity.

Geography
  • The ratio of the volume of pores to the volume of matter within a rock or soil, expressed as a percentage. Iverson et al. (2000) Science 20 conclude that relatively small variations in porosity can influence landslide behaviour profoundly. Koulouri and Giourga (2007) Catena 69, 3 use soil porosity as one variable in determining soil erodibility. Chemical weathering increases rock porosity under virtually all circumstances (Gordon (2005) Physical Geogr.). Damody et al. (2008) Geomorph. 94, 1–2 use the porosity of granite to date tors. Porosity is one of the best indicators of soil structural quality.
