A field encompassing all aspects of the design and application of electronic sensors for the acquisition, storage, analysis, and visualization of information about an object. It therefore includes not only conventional digital cameras, but also imaging technologies such as infrared, ultrasonography, X-ray, laser, and radar. Application areas include the 2D and 3D recording of objects for a wide range of purposes, such as 3D printers, manufacturing process automation, robotics, remote sensing, and 3D motion capture for computer games and film making.
