单词 solar radiation
释义
solar radiation

Space Exploration
  • The radiation given off by the Sun, consisting mainly of visible light, ultraviolet radiation, and infrared radiation, although the whole spectrum of electromagnetic waves is present, from radio waves to X-rays. High-energy charged particles, such as electrons, are also emitted, especially from solar flares. When these reach the Earth, they cause magnetic storms (disruptions of the Earth's magnetic field), which interfere with radio communications.

Geology and Earth Sciences
  • Electromagnetic radiated energy from the Sun. This is the dominant energy input to the Earth and is intercepted by the atmosphere and absorbed at the surface. See also radiation budget.

Geography
  • The electromagnetic waves emitted by the sun, varying in wavelength from long-wave radio waves, through infrared waves and visible light, to ultraviolet waves, X-rays, and gamma radiation. Earth gets only 0.0005% of the sun’s radiation Most solar radiation passes straight through the atmosphere without warming it, but it is received and absorbed by the Earth. See Allen (2006) QJ Royal Met. Soc. 84, 362. Changes in solar radiation are known as solar forcing.
