An ocean current that flows northwards parallel to the western coast of Greenland, carrying relatively warm water through the Davis Strait, where the current divides, one section continuing into Baffin Bay and the other joining the Labrador current. The West Greenland current is a continuation of the North Atlantic Drift (see gulf stream).
