The process of triggering an electronic device, usually digital, with the active edge of a clock pulse. The device, generally a flip-flop, can be either positive edge triggered or negative edge triggered. The specified edge indicates the initialization of data transfer. In the diagram, with both inputs to the JK flip-flop at logical 1, whenever the clock triggers the device the output on Q will change from logical 1 to logical 0, or vice versa. The polarity of the edge trigger will specify at which edge this change occurs, i.e. positive or negative.
