An aperture-synthesis radio telescope at Westerbork, about 40 km southeast of Groningen, in the Netherlands, owned and operated by the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON). It consists of ten fixed and four movable dishes, each 25 m in diameter. The fixed dishes are in a 1.2-km east–west line, with two movable dishes on a 300-m length of track at the eastern end; this array was opened in 1970. In 1980 a separate 200-m track with two more movable dishes was opened 1.5 km further east, thereby increasing the maximum baseline to 3 km.
