A c.g.s. unit used for the viscosity of fluids. It is the tangential force expressed in dynes per square centimetre that is required to maintain the difference in velocity of two parallel plates that sandwich the fluid by a distance of one centimetre at a velocity of one centimetre per second. The centipoise (cP) is more commonly used in which one cP is equal to 10^-3 Pa s.
