1. Used in multistage separation calculations, it represents the point of no further enrichment between stages. On the McCabe–Thiele diagram, the point is located where the operating line touches the equilibrium curve.
2. The point in a pinch analysis that corresponds to the point where the hot and cold streams in an integrated process are most constrained (see Fig. 37).
