1. The marked peak in intensity at the centre of an Airy disk.

2. The point of maximum intensity of the combined light from an unresolved binary star. The position of the photocentre does not correspond to that of either component, nor to that of the barycentre. Motion of the photocentre is evidence that the system in question is an astrometric binary.
