A type of hydrometeor in which water condenses onto grass and other exposed surfaces near the ground when the temperature has fallen below the dew point. If the dew point is below freezing a hoarfrost forms. If dew is formed before the temperature falls below freezing, frozen dew called white dew, is formed. Conditions that encourage the formation of dew include: (1) a surface that is insulated from the heat supply for the soil, (2) a clear still atmosphere with a low relative humidity.
