温带半干旱大陆性气候和草原植被条件下形成的具有栗色腐殖质层和碳酸钙淀积层的土壤。栗钙土名称（栗色过渡型土壤）始见于俄国土壤学家V.V.道库恰耶夫1886年的土壤分类系统中栗钙土的英译名“kastanozem”，也来自俄文栗色的土地 “каштанозем”。中国从20世纪30年代的土壤分类制到1988年全国第二次土壤普查分类制一直采用此名称。在中国土壤系统分类中主要为干润均腐殖土。相当于美国土壤系统分类中的半干润软土，联合国世界土壤图图例（1988）中的栗钙土[注]集合土类。
