Source code comprises human readable instructions written in a programming language. Source code is compiled or converted into machine code, i.e., machine language, which is a set of numerical instructions that a computer can read and execute. 2. A set of rules or conventions that clearly specifies the manner for representing data in symbolic form. A code that intentionally conceals the information for security purposes is known as a cipher. 3. A system of symbols that provides information about something, like a postal code, a telephone country code or area code, or an Internet Protocol (IP) country code. 4. A system by which some combination of bits is used within a computer and between computers to represent a character or symbol, such as a letter, number, punctuation mark, or control character.
