单词 watermark
释义

watermark

1. A translucent mark or image in paper produced by pressing the paper in a mold or on a processing roll during the manufacturing process. The watermark is visible when the paper is held to a light. A watermark is used as a sign of authenticity in order to make the counterfeiting of currency and postage stamps more difficult, for example. 2. Digital watermarking is the process by which visible or invisible copyright notices or other messages are embedded in audio, image, or video signals or files, program files, or Web pages, thereby providing a tracking mechanism and discouraging copyright violations. The term is derived from the practice of marking paper, especially currency and postage stamps, to discourage counterfeiting. A hidden digital watermark is a form of steganography. See also steganography.
