voice mail The intervention of a voice processor in order that a caller can leave a voice message in the event that the incoming call encounters a busy signal or a no answer condition. In such an event, the telephone system (KTS, PBX, Centrex, or CO) directs the call to the voice processor, which answers the call with a default or customized greeting and directs the incoming call to a voice mailbox associated with a particular user or application.
