soft handoff

In cellular radio networks, a handoff process in which the connection is established by the

second base station (BS) before being broken by the first as a mobile station (MS) moves out of the range of the first and into the range of the second.This technique is also known as make and break. See also BS, cellular radio, handoff, hard handoff, MS, and radio.
