shortwave Referring to the short wavelength of high frequency (HF) radio, which is in the frequency range of 3–30 MHz and has a wavelength of 100–10 m, respectively.The term shortwave was popularized in the early days of radio, when the HF radio was unusual, but AM broadcast radio, which is in the medium frequency (MF) range and has a much longer wavelength, was popular. HF radio has applications in citizens band (CB) radio, mobile radio, and maritime radio systems.
