LZW (Lemple-Ziv-Welch) A lossless data compression algorithm used in the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) and optionally used in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) files. LZW is named after its inventors, Abraham Lempel, Jacob Ziv, and Terry Welch.
