单词 | LNP (Local Number Portability) |
释义 | LNP (Local Number Portability) Referring to the ability to port, i.e., move, a local telephone num- ber from one service or service provider, i.e., local exchange carrier (LEC), to another in a competitive environment. In the United States, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 mandated LNP, and established the Local Number Portability Administration (LNPA) to oversee the development and deployment of the necessary mechanisms. LNP is accomplished through the use of local routing numbers (LRNs) that point the originating exchange to the correct terminating carrier and exchange. LNP eventually is expected to support geographic portability. In 2003, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) required wireless number portability (WNP), extending portability to cellular telephone numbers. LNP and LRNs are supervised by the Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC). See also LEC, LRN, Telecommunications Act of 1996, and WNP. |
