hyperlink

A characteristic or property of an element (e.g., symbol, word, phrase, sentence, or image) in a document that points to and causes to display another document when the user clicks it with a mouse.

In a hypertext system, such a linked element is underlined, bolded, or otherwise emphasized to indicate to the user that a link to another document is available. Hyperlinks are created through the use of programming languages such as SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) and HTML (Hypertext
