Géant2 (Translated from French as Giant2.) An ultra fast European fiber optic backbone connecting some 5,000 institutions across Europe, including many high schools, in the European Union, plus Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, and Israel. Géant2 was lit in Milan in June, 2005, with the €186 million funded half by the European Union and half by member nations. Géant2 is the European equivalent of the U.S. Internet2.
