A high-performance network by the University Consortium for Advanced Internet

Development (UCAID) in support of Internet2.Abilene infrastructure comprises high-speed routers connected to several dozen GigaPOPs (Gbps Points of Presence) interconnected over fiber optic transmission systems (FOTS) operating at speeds up to 10 Gbps.
