The few hundred meters or so of the local loop from the node to the premises generally is either unshielded twisted pair (UTP) in a telco application or coaxial cable (coax) in a CATV application, although some form of wireless technology is also possible.The fiber portion of a contemporary FTTN configuration generally conforms to one of the passive optical network (PON) standards.
