单词 dark galaxy
释义
dark galaxy

Physics
  • A galaxy that is composed largely of dark matter. There is some evidence for the existence of such galaxies. It is thought that they should be very common, particularly since theories of large-scale structure work much better if the existence of plentiful dark galaxies is assumed.

Astronomy
  • A region of space containing as much hydrogen gas and dark matter as a large galaxy but in which no stars have formed; hence such objects are invisible to optical telescopes, but they can be detected at radio wavelengths from their hydrogen emission. Cosmological models predict that there could be up to 100 times as many dark galaxies as normal ones throughout the Universe, but the failure to discover them is a major problem for cosmology.
