An aerial photograph that has had various distortions corrected so that it forms a correctly scaled map of the terrain it shows. The distortions can result from optical distortion of the camera lens, misalignment of the camera axis from the vertical, or the varying height of the terrain being photographed. Corrected orthophotos can be used as a basis for accurate mapping of an area.
