1. A thin coating of an expensive metal rolled on to a cheaper one.
2. A thin covering of a metal around a fuel element in a nuclear reactor to prevent corrosion of the fuel elements by the coolant.
Chemical Engineering
The tight-fitting surrounding material used to contain nuclear fuel. Its purpose is to protect the fuel against chemically active agents and to prevent the release of fission products into cooling water, particular when the fuel is stored in water prior to reprocessing.
