Area that encompasses India and Asia south of the Himalayan–Tibetan mountain barrier, and the Australasian archipelago, excluding New Guinea and the Celebes. There are marked similarities with the Ethiopian realm (e.g. both have elephants and rhinoceroses) but there are endemic groups (see endemism), e.g. pandas and gibbons.
