A medium-sized to large, predominantly black bird belonging to one of at least 14 species in the genus Corvus (family Corvidae). Crows are omnivorous, highly social, and extremely intelligent. They occur throughout North America, Eurasia, Africa, and Australasia. The carrion crow is C. corone, the hooded crow C. cornix, the rook C. frugilegus, and the genus also includes the raven (C. corax) and jackdaw (C. monedula).
