A universe which expands forever and has an infinite lifetime. A Friedmann universe with a density less than the critical density is an example. Observations show both that the density of our Universe is well below the critical density and that the expansion of the Universe is accelerating (generally explained with a cosmological constant). It therefore is now generally accepted that we live in this kind of universe. See also Cosmology.
